The power of prayer. What does this mean?
Prayer is an ancient technology and form of communication used to connect one’s consciousness in with the divine source of life which moves in, around, and beyond us. Prayer has been used for generations and generations to establish a bond between ‘heaven and earth’, between our needs and our desires, our heads and our hearts. There are about as many ways to pray as there are movements the body can make. It is infinite. A few components of prayer which, in my opinion, make all the difference are repetition, consistency, intention, and presence. Are we able to be constant in our devotion? To deliver our prayer as though it is our breath. Are we able to SENSE our intentions as they pour through us? Are we able to FEEL the energy of our prayer as we offer it to the divine? Can we be present with that feeling, allowing it the space to be a true, powerful offering.
In Greg Braden’s book – a lost mode of prayer – he goes into the journey and explanation of how, whilst praying, in order to really make a difference and shift the energy we must FEEL the outcome of our prayer as though it is happening in the moment. To put it simply, the feeling becomes the prayer, and the prayer is the feeling.
Another point he highlights is that we always get what we ask for. For example, if we are praying FOR peace then we are not IN peace, if we are praying FOR forgiveness we are not IN forgiveness. Essentially, we are not accessing the part of ourselves which IS the answer to the prayer already – the feeling power. The emotional body activation of what being asked for IS the outcome.
Why is this important when it comes to horses? Well first of all, horses (amongst other things) encourage us, invite us, and often NEED us to be aware of a deeper aspect of ourselves, which could be or could not be seen as divine depending on your point of view. Secondly, many of us in the equine world are looking for change, we are hungry for it. Like a nourishing meal we are chasing because we know it is at the tip of our tongues, we just haven’t…quite…got it yet. And that meal, that change, is the movement from separation conscious to unity consciousness. To seeing and experiencing horses being walked alongside rather than worked to the ground. We want to see horses and humans joined up through the heart, and the way that change will be demonstrated externally is through our physical actions being adjusted. I.e. rather than horses being whipped, used, and abused physically, mentally, and emotionally, we as a species will drop into our hearts enough to recognise all life as ONE life, and therefore be able to EMPATHISE with the sensations of the horses. Choosing to honour them with the utmost reverence and respect as we would any aspect of the life around us, including ourselves and each other. Getting to that point is a journey and I will add here that the nuanced aspects of this journey are very, very real. For example, I love the horses in my life, I respect them and revere them. However, there are days my shadow runs the show, days I forget about my heart and live in my head. This doesn’t mean I lash out at my horses or anything like that, it is simply about re-member-ing Unity first and foremost. Through this process though, the return to love is always the gift which keeps on giving. The shadow-led moments on these days have a different quality to them now, they are less intense and last for shorter periods of time. That is why consistency is so important in our prayer. Through consistency we close the gap between one state of being and another. By bringing into our realities what we are being consistent with.
Back to the feeling prayer. If what we as a collective are driving towards and, in some senses, praying for is a more unified, harmonious, loving equine industry then how can we start activating the FEELING of that reality into existence. We are electro-magnetic beings, we have the ability to POWERFULLY attract to us exactly what / who we are being, moment by moment. Not just right now but ALL THE TIME.
What I am seeing is that those people in the equine industry who are creating magical containers for connection with horses, are also creating spaces for us to ‘get into that feeling state of being’ in those containers we have a beautiful opportunity to step into the future. And, what if we brought that future closer to us by not waiting for another container to get into that state. Being of service to the change means – BEING THE CHANGE.
Without waiting for another container to get into that state. Being of service to the change means, as if famously said, BEING the change.
We are creatures of habit, right! So, if day by day we are creating our future by being in one habit or another, the prayer for our horses and the humans involved with horses can become a feeling habit. What does the loving future of the industry feel like to you? Where do you sense this in your body? Who would you be if that future existed right now? What would change about your daily actions, how you think about yourself, how you think about your horses? What is the truth swelling within which wants OUT! All of the answers to these questions are within our capacity to give space to.
What does the feeling prayer look like?
Let’s take the intention so many of us are moving towards as an example. I will sit and imagine the state of the industry, how I personally feel and believe it needs to be to improve the lives of horses on earth for the absolute highest good! I will bring that image to mind, making sure I generate a FEELING. I place myself into that image and literally feel the feelings I would feel if that was happening right NOW. My body may get flushed, I may feel warmth in my belly or a burning in my higher heart which induces emotion. My whole body may relax and feel elevated at the same time. The language of the feeling sense is YOURS and yours alone. I keep hold of that feeling, letting it root and rise, root and rise, root and rise through my system. Bringing it all the way down to my feet and all the way up to my head. I keep deepening my breathe but this usually happens naturally. And through the feeling the image becomes clearer! It becomes more palpable. More alive in me.
So, to wrap this up, bringing in another juicy way to help our future generations of horses and humans, in the now. How could making prayer, through feeling, a regular part of your day make you feel?
