Whilst we in the southern hemisphere have been In our world of darkness and rest, I wonder how much true, deep regenerative rest we have been giving ourselves? Are we ready to spring into the world from a place of vigour and excitement? Or are we still catching up with ourselves from the winter which needed us to hibernate in a way we perhaps weren’t able to give ourselves to the fullest?
Physically speaking, when we are resting well our bodies have a chance to go into deep cellular repair, supporting our immune function and creating space for growth hormones to be generated throughout the body. Resting well also regulates our circadian rhythm which influences various cellular processes, including gene expression and a regulation of our metabolic system.
Many of us are experience a deep, heart-felt desire for major regeneration.
We know rest works, at least I hope we do. However, at what other levels does resting benefit us and can we re-write the narrative around whether providing space and time for ourselves to rest more than we are is important or not for our overall physical and spiritual wellbeing.
So what does it mean to rest the Soul?
When I ask the horses this question this is the response I receive:
To rest, as you like to call it, is to bring all of yourself into the moment. It is to bring the harmonising effects of life into the present moment as well, as though there is life beyond life, a function beyond the apparent vista of what has already been seen. Resting for the soul is about more of a window of opportunity to present itself through the mirror and vehicle of the body. When we are ‘resting’ we are receiving from the divine light which resides and moves inside our cells. There is no space for the mind here, it is pure stillness within motion within stillness. Resting within our grounded energy encourages a spark of creative force. This force, as a seed may do, reaches towards the light, and encourages the light to be reached for. To know itself as the experience being received by the seed, which is your fresh thought which comes from a deep, true rest of the soul. Therefore, rest of the soul can be seen an experienced as re-set of the systems of the physical body which are receiving the light of the soul at different capacities in all moments. When space is made for more of that light, the light is encouraged to know itself and live through you. This is the art of creative action in stillness. Resting the soul takes a little bit more courage than you may think. It requires you to be within being. To let the mind wander whilst the body opens to its source. Simply sit out in your favourite location or wherever you are able to to feel connected to nature. Bring your attention to your breath and let you mind wander in complete freedom, set your intention to reside within the resider, to open bit by bit by bit to the elements. You can reach this state of presence by utilising the bridge of nature surrounding you. Until at last a deep, true returning of yourself into the moment is experienced. Here, you are resting your soul by connecting with it through the human, terrestrial, and cosmic experience of the now. Continue this until you feel a softening and opening of your state of being, and until your soul ‘moves’ you on.
As a fellow human I understand how at times, taking a moment for yourself to rest this way may be the absolute last thing on your mind. Our lives can be busy, full, overwhelming, exhausting, all the things. The horses are encouraging us here to simply listen for a moment to the space inside us which resides in full force for our creative outlook on life. To let ourself come FULLY into the present to be regenerated by accessing the deeper parts of ourselves which want to be seen, heard, felt, acknowledged, and witnessed.
To rest the soul through regenerating our attention in the present moment. For here, we are all connected, and where we are all connected we all have an opportunity to thrive for one another and ourselves.
Happy Spring time family.
