Message from Dilara
As with all cards in the tarot, the Strength card holds an equal amount of symbolism as it does literal reflection. On the surface the strength card can represent fortitude, will power, courage, and determination, the Strength card can also call forth the quality of an open heart. With its ruling sign being Leo, the strength card brings our awareness to having our heart on our sleeve – a way of being which can imbue as much vulnerability as it does strength into a space. Additionally, the Strength card is an internal and introspective card, it can represent the process of facing aspects of our consciousness we may or may not have come into contact with yet. The infinity symbol above the figure’s head can represent the unity and divinity realised as a result of this acknowledgement and integration process. The relationship between the figure and the lion is open to interpretation and is highly dependent upon the question asked of the cards. Some readers say the figure is subduing the lion with force, some say she and the lion are in a symbolic embrace, with the lion surrendering to her. More than anything the Strength card brings in for us the energy of observation, inner understanding, the courage to face oneself, and the powerful influence we have on our environment through taking responsibility. I also feel at times that this card epitomises the strength of our truth, our inner and outer voice, our wild roar which when utilised and expressed with love – is a creative powerhouse.
Reversed
In the reversed position The Stength card can represent a desire to fulfil the space within us with confidence and certainty. Perhaps there is space in your life, whether it be mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical, which is calling you into a deeper state of connection with an aspect of you which seems to be ‘pulling you down’. Is there anyone you wish to speak up to, any act you desire to complete which requires your courage and powerful attention? If the strength card appears reversed you can ensure your being is calling to you for some space, to listen to a part of you who wants to roar, and to take responsibility by holding space for what that part needs, tending to what is in the moment.
Message from the Herd
One important message and aspect of the strength card is ‘cause and effect’. When you look at the card make sure you encompass as part of your perspective the question ‘who is looking?’ The image shows the effect of one’s internal responses to life’s seemingly external nature. There is always more when it comes to the Strength card, and this is partly due to its energetics. The number 8 allows the card to have a nature of endless possibility. Imagine the infinity symbol covering the lion and the figure, with this additional awareness you see that the movement of consciousness in the card is what is needed for the card itself to have an effect on you. In a reading the Strength card could represent courage, yes, and what requires more courage than internal reflective action? What allows for more space than turning toward oneself, and finding the focus to shift from within? The answers to these questions are what draws up true strength for the individual and collective receivers of this card.
Reversed
Reversed, the Strength card brings in the energy of forgetfulness. The fear of weakness, and the apparent weakness in choosing to turn away from the cycle of life which requires turning within. Reversed, this card could also represent the art of pausing, stopping, waiting, slowing down in order to bring reflection and courage into place in the stillness. This is an important aspect of the reversed position of this card, slowing down takes courage, even though it may not seem so, and this is also a medicinal balm for the human mind.
